The article by Meletis et al. explores the challenges faced by animals during disasters like floods, emphasizing the need for better crisis management plans, especially from a veterinary perspective. Drawing from the European experience, particularly the Thessaly flood in 2023, it highlights gaps in communication and response strategies. Using a mixed-method approach, the study analyzes media coverage and public sentiment, revealing a lack of focus on animal health issues. Insights include the impact of lay referral systems on public perceptions, media influence on discourse, and the formation of online communities for support. Recommendations stress the importance of integrating animal care into emergency response strategies and improving crisis communication for better outcomes.
